# Mako v03 against the user's sheet: Critique, round 1 (2026-10-20) Judged only against `reference/user_reference.png` and the user's words (*"this isnt look like the referance picture do it more precisely ... fix the glass fins also the holder clips smaller thinner"*, then *"do it accordingly to the reference picture"*). Model images: `previews/compare/lk_*.png` and `previews/v03_studio_hero.png`. **Verdict in one line:** TOP and SIDE *outlines* match (as the README says), but almost nothing *inside* the outlines reads like the sheet, and FRONT and REAR do not match at all. The sheet is a **round glass bubble set in a thick orange bezel, with a deep red-orange jaw, grey cheek bodies and a stern machine**. The model is a **pointed grey-blue visor with black frames and orange rails, a thin collar band, a salmon chin, black slab pods and an egg-shaped rear**. The fault is inside the outline (sections, part layout, materials), not in the outline itself. Coordinates are pixels in `user_reference.png` (1448 x 1086). Metres use the build's mapping: SIDE `z = (805.333 - y) * 0.0075 + 0.10`; FRONT (lk framing, 7.0 mm/px) `lat = (x - 1185) * 0.007`, `z = 1.13 + (150 - y) * 0.007`; REAR `lat = (x - 1188) * 0.007`, `z = 1.13 + (645 - y) * 0.007`. Overlay pictures (the sheet's shapes drawn over the sheet on the left and over the model on the right): `critique/r1_targets_front.png`, `critique/r1_targets_side.png`. Side-by-side crops: `critique/p_*.png`, stacks `critique/stack_*.png`. **A correction to `mk_measure.py`'s premise.** FRONT and REAR are *not* drawn 1.4x. Rendered at 7.0 mm/px, the model's body fills the sheet's FRONT/REAR body to within about 3 %, so those views are drawn about 1.07x TOP/SIDE. Their section *sizes* can be used, not just their shapes, and they agree with TOP/SIDE to within 5-10 % (dome 1.47 m wide in FRONT against 1.51 m glass width in TOP at x 260). --- ## Ranked differences (most visible first) ### 1. The canopy is a pointed visor; the sheet's is a round dome (FRONT, hero, SIDE) - **Sheet FRONT:** the glass is an ellipse **x 1080-1290, y 194-360** (centre (1185, 277); 210 x 166 px = **1.47 m wide x 1.16 m tall**, centre z 0.24, **top z 0.82**). It has a globe-like set of *thin, light* lines: two meridians near x 1150 and x 1222 and one or two latitude lines. The seat is clearly visible inside. - **Model FRONT:** the glass fills the whole collar opening, **x 1075-1298, y 163-358** (1.56 x 1.37 m). Its top is **flat across x 1100-1270 at y 163 (z 1.04)**, about 0.22 m too high and square-shouldered. It reads as a goggle or visor, made worse by the black frames (item 3). - **SIDE:** at the collar the sheet's glass top is at **y 705-712 (z 0.80-0.85)**, with orange above it up to the hull line (y 672-678). The model's glass climbs to **y 693 at x 280 (z 0.94)** and almost to the hull top at x 290. - **Nose:** the sheet's nose is a **blunt rounded bullet**. In SIDE the glass is 17 px tall at x 50 (13 cm) and 32 px at x 70; the lower outline curves (42,792)→(60,812)→(80,830)→(100,845)→(120,856). The model ends in a **needle point** (4 px tall at x 50); its lower outline is a straight chamfer from (42,790) to the jaw corner at about (165,850). In the hero view it is a grey "beak" ahead of the jaw. - **Change:** - Make every canopy section from the nose to the collar a smooth ellipse (no flat top, no centre ridge), ending at the collar in the FRONT ellipse above: about 1.47 x 1.16 m, top at z ≈ 0.82, widest at z ≈ 0.25. - Keep the TOP plan outline and the SIDE lower sill (both are right). - Lower the SIDE top line just ahead of the collar from about y 693 to y 705-712. The difference to the hull line is taken up by the orange hood (item 2). - Round the nose tip to a radius of about 7-8 cm (SIDE: 17 px tall at x 50). - Move the jaw's front-top corner forward from about (165,850) to **(120,856)** so the glass's lower front is the curved bullet above. ### 2. The collar is a thin raised band; the sheet's is a thick orange bezel with a hood and shoulders (FRONT, SIDE, TOP, REAR) - **Sheet FRONT:** the orange frames the dome's **upper two-thirds** like a bezel. - Outer outline: (1160,150)–(1213,150) at the top, straight slopes down to **sharp shoulder points at (1050,207) and (1321,207)** (lat ∓0.95, z 0.73), then in to (1082,230)/(1289,230) and down the sides at x ≈ 1071-1074 / 1297-1300 to **y ≈ 300-305, where it ends** (z ≈ 0.05). - The bezel does **not** go round the bottom; the jaw meets the dome there. - Orange width: about 44 px over the top (y 150-194, = 0.31 m), 60 px at the shoulders (row 210: x 1050-1110), 6-10 px on the sides (row 270: x 1071-1081). - The model shows only a 5 px orange rim with glass right up to it. - **Sheet SIDE:** the collar is a band **x 286→333 at y 720, 298→338 at y 740, 301→339 at y 760, 300→334 at y 780, 293→325 at y 800**, ending in a rounded foot at **y ≈ 815 (z 0.03)**. Under the foot is grey sill (y 814-833), then the jaw. Its top edge sweeps forward over the glass as a **wedge from (290, 678-712) to a point at (200, 706)**. - The model's band is x 293-351, vertical, straight down to **y 835**: about 20 px too low and, at the bottom, 58 px wide instead of about 32. - **Sheet TOP:** the collar is an orange band at x ≈ 290-345 (about right in the model). In front of it, along the canopy's **outer edges**, runs an orange **lip from x ≈ 205 (0 px wide) to x 290 (30 px wide)**, at lateral 102→122 px. The glass is inset inside it, half-width ≈ 100 px at x 260 (sheet: glass y 166-367, orange y 146-158). - The model's glass runs out to the edge (x 260: glass y 154-373) with a dark rim instead. - **Change:** rebuild the collar as a bezel whose front face carries those FRONT outlines (peaked top, two angular shoulders, sides ending at the widest line), with its top swept forward into the SIDE wedge and its outer edges into the TOP lips. This one change also produces most of REAR's orange "cape" (item 6): in REAR the shoulders at (1050,735)/(1321,735) are this collar seen from behind. - The collar's surface: a flat band with crisp chamfered edges, flush with the shell behind it (the SIDE top line is continuous over it). Not a rounded torus with a strong highlight, as in the model's TOP. ### 3. Glass colour, frames and rails (all views) - **Glass colour:** the sheet's glass is light sky-cyan and plainly transparent. Medians: SIDE nose **(146,220,244)**, TOP **(162,226,246)**, FRONT dome **(199,235,248)**, with white highlight streaks and the seat and console readable through it. The model's is dull blue-grey: **(92,119,137)**, **(111,141,157)**, **(122,150,167)**. It reads as opaque grey plastic, worst at the nose. - **Change:** a brighter, more saturated cyan tint, much less absorption and darkening, low roughness. The cabin must be clearly visible (FRONT: the seat centred at about (1185,230-330)). - **Frames:** the sheet has no heavy frames on the glass. SIDE shows only a thin light inner line parallel to the outline; TOP shows a thin dark hoop at x ≈ 165-205 and the nose seam; FRONT shows thin light meridians and latitudes. - The model has **thick black bars**: in SIDE a kinked "brow" (120,745)→(170,740)→(205,755)→(225,743) and a long belt (85,800)→(330,762) crossing the glass diagonally; in FRONT a smile-shaped hoop and a top bar; in TOP a broad dark rim round the whole canopy. Together they give an "angry visor" face the sheet does not have. - **Change:** delete the belt and the kinked brow bar. Make the hoop and nose seam thin (about 1-1.5 cm) and light grey. Add FRONT's two thin meridians. - **Orange rails:** they are the brightest thing over the canopy in TOP (x 140-290 at ±50 px) and FRONT, and **no view of the sheet has them**. TOP's dark bars at ±43 px (x 165-230) are short, dark blue and inside the glass, i.e. cabin structure. The SIDE orange "band near the top" that the rails were read from is the collar's wedge (item 2). - **Change:** remove the rails. For the fore clips' footing, see item 8. ### 4. The "pods" are black slab boxes; the sheet has a recess, a grey cheek body and the fin root there (SIDE, TOP, FRONT, REAR) - **Sheet SIDE** (`p_side_mid.png`): - Behind the collar, under the orange shell, is a **dark recess (cavity), x 338-445, y 700-790 (z 0.89-0.21)**, with lighter grey inner faces. - The shell's lower edge **curls down at x 420-445 to y 745** and closes the recess at the back. A **black slanted slot** runs along that curl from about (390,756) up to (446,705), and there is a **small round port at (358,752)** (Ø ≈ 8 px). - Below it lies the big **light-grey angular cheek panel (≈(137,152,163))**. Its upper edge runs (280,820)→(342,800)→(392,780)→(431,760)→(470,742), its lower edge (300,832)→(375,845), and the fin grows out of its lower rear. - **Model SIDE:** a **raised black box x 318-488, y 705-795** with a black oval on a flat face and a square back end at x 488. It covers the recess and the upper half of the cheek panel. It reads as a bolted-on battery box. - **TOP:** the sheet's pods are **mid/light grey** with the black slot along their inner side (x 330-440). They taper smoothly into the fin roots and the grey flanks to x ≈ 560, with no square end. The model's are flat **black** rectangles ending square at x 488. Their extents already match (outer edge about 137 px at x 380). - **FRONT:** the sheet's dark rounded rectangles **x 1040-1081 / 1290-1331, y 205-300** are the recess openings beside the bezel, with grey cheek parts below them (x 1053-1110, y 300-370) where the fins leave. The model's dark parts there are thin slivers behind the wide collar. - **REAR:** the sheet's lobes (x 1045-1170 and 1200-1330, **y 745-860, z 0.43 to -0.37**) are the closed, rounded rear ends of the grey cheek bodies, dark grey with 2-3 curved concentric panel lines and a lighter rim. They are **not nozzles**. The model has **round fan grilles with white rings at y 690-790 (z 0.82-0.12)**, standing beside the shell like ears. - **Change:** - Replace the black box with the recess (open toward the front, behind the collar, dark slate), the shell's curl with the black slot, and the port. - Make the pod or cheek body light grey and lower: its mass at z ≈ -0.35..+0.4, i.e. the SIDE cheek panel region, which REAR's lobes confirm. Fair it rearward into the fin root and flank (TOP x ≈ 560) instead of ending it square. - Close its REAR end as a rounded dark lobe with curved panel lines. Remove the fan grilles. ### 5. The jaw: colour, the rear "C", the prongs, the lamps (SIDE, FRONT, hero) - **Colour:** the sheet's jaw is a deep red-orange **(198,78,31)**, clearly redder than the shell (230,127,39). The model's is a desaturated salmon/pink **(178,111,95)**. **Change:** saturate it to about (200,80,30). - **Rear "C" (SIDE):** the sheet's jaw does not stop at the collar. - Its upper arm runs back under the cheek panel to **x 368 at y 836-856**. A **dark rounded opening x 296-372, y 856-900** (0.57 x 0.33 m) sits inside it, and a lower arm runs at y 895-905 back to x 342. - The model's jaw ends in a vertical line at x 291, with plain dark hull behind it. That vertical cut makes the nose-and-collar look like a separate cone stuck on a box. - **Change:** add the C (jaw paint) and the dark opening. - **Prongs / fangs:** - SIDE draws **two broad flat parallel prongs**: x ≈ 255-310, y 925-990, each ≈ 12 px (9 cm) wide, 8 px apart, continuing the jaw's back-lower corner down and forward. - FRONT: fangs **x 1149-1166 and 1205-1222 at y 450** (lat ±0.19-0.20, **0.12 m wide**), tips at y ≈ 478. - The model's are thin needles, 8 px (0.056 m) wide at FRONT y 450. **Change:** double their width and make them flat blades. - **Keel tooth (FRONT):** a dark blade **x 1172-1199 at y 450 (0.19 m wide), tip at y ≈ 488**. The model's ends above y 470 and is narrow. **Change:** widen and lengthen it. - **Lamps:** the two white discs on the jaw (SIDE (165,860); FRONT about (1115,345)/(1265,345)) are not on the sheet and read as eyes. **Change:** turn them off (a dark lens) or move them under the chin. - **Jaw edges:** the front edge already runs close to the sheet's (148,860)→(186,900)→(243,940)→(282,980). Keep it; only its top corner moves forward (item 1). FRONT: keep the bottom squared between the fangs (flat at about y 445 with the keel tooth in the middle), not the model's round "U" chin. ### 6. REAR reads as an egg with ears; the sheet's is a wide cape over two lobes with a stern machine (REAR, SIDE stern) - **Sheet REAR** (`p_rear.png`): - A wide angular **orange cape**: five facets, a ridge at the dorsal base (1185, ≈665; z 0.99), sloping to shoulders **(1050,735)/(1321,735)** (z 0.50), and a nearly **straight lower edge at y ≈ 750 (z 0.40)**. - Below it the two lobes (item 4), then a dark **lower box x 1110-1260, y 860-905**. - In the centre a big **stern unit**: a square hub **x 1155-1215, y 775-835 (0.42 m)**, cross arms x 1135-1235 at y 800-815 and x 1170-1200 from y 735 to 870, orange rings at x ≈ 1160 and 1215 (y 790-830), and pipes. - The **ventral fin** is a broad grey blade (about 20 px wide at y 920, tip at (1182,1003)). - **Model REAR:** - A narrow rounded orange dome (x 1102-1272 at y 720), with the pod fans beside it at the cape's height. - A small round fan duct and a white light (≈ x 1160-1215, y 770-830). - A rounded bottom to y 955, the fang tips showing below, and the ventral fin only as a hairline. - **Change:** the cape comes from item 2 (the collar's back face plus a faceted shell; give the shell behind the collar 2 facet creases a side, at about x 1110/1150 and 1220/1260 in REAR). The lobes come from item 4. Build the stern unit at the sheet's size; it is the centrepiece of REAR. - **SIDE stern** (`p_side_rear.png`): - The sheet has a bulky cluster at x 870-955: a **vertical mast at x ≈ 903 from y 725 to 790** with a small crossbar, an **orange round part at about (862-878, 795-822)**, two tool arms at y ≈ 800 and ≈ 830 reaching x 950, and a block at x 880-935, y 820-850. - The hull's dark body narrows into it (lower edge rising to y ≈ 830 at x 890). - The model's stern is a flat cut at x ≈ 895 with one small tool. - **Change:** build the cluster (the stern unit above seen from the side). Keep the stowed tool tips within x 950 for the moon pool. ### 7. The big fins: curved whiskers; the sheet's are straight faceted spikes (FRONT, REAR, TOP) - **FRONT:** - The sheet's fins are **straight**. Left fin: outer edge (1061,330)→(995,490), inner edge (1092,330)→(997,490), about 25-30 px wide at the root. They leave the body **low and inboard**, under the recess at the jaw's side (x ≈ 1080-1092, y ≈ 330). - The model's leave higher and further out (≈ x 1040, y 250-330), bow outward, and end at x 971/1398 instead of 997/1370 (26 px further out each side). - **REAR:** the same, root at the lobes' lower outer corners (≈ (1060-1090, 840-870)), tips (985,1000)/(1385,1000). - **Form:** the sheet's fins have a visible ridge, a light upper facet and a darker lower one. The model's are thin, flat and bent. - **Change:** - Straight leading and trailing edges in every view. - A diamond-like section with a centre ridge, about 25 px (0.18 m) deep at the root in FRONT. - The root lowered and moved inboard to the cheek body (item 4). - A lighter blue-grey paint (sheet ≈ (148,163,176); the model reads (113,122,131) in the same light). - **Dorsal and tail fins** are paper-thin in the model. In FRONT the sheet's dorsal is a solid orange spike **30 px (0.21 m) wide at its base** (x 1170-1200, y 150), and REAR shows the same. The model's is a pale hairline. **Change:** about 0.15-0.2 m thick at the root, tapering to the tip, edges rounded. For the fin tip's x, see contradiction C1. ### 8. My-additions that change the sheet's look: the fore clip pylons, and the hatch (SIDE, FRONT, REAR, TOP) - **Fore clip pylons:** - SIDE: two grey posts at x ≈ 233-254 rising to y ≈ 634, about **0.5 m above the glass line**. - FRONT and REAR: two grey posts with orange legs standing over the dome (FRONT x ≈ 1100-1125 and 1240-1265, heads at y ≈ 105-150). - The user's own red SIDE sketch does show **two small clips standing proud of the hull** (a bump at x ≈ 175-200, y 680-700 and one at x ≈ 300-340, y 648-665), so clips above the line are expected. Grey posts on orange legs straddling the glass are not. - **Change:** stand the fore clips on the orange hood or wedge from item 2 instead of on rails on the glass. Extend the hood's leading edge forward to x ≈ 230 over lateral ±0.45 m, which SIDE's wedge and FRONT's orange above the dome both support (see C2). - Make their supports short, wide orange fairings growing out of the hood, so only the steel clip plates read as hardware. - If the arm geometry allows, moving the clamp axis aft to the collar's middle (x ≈ 315, still inside the red loop, which spans TOP x 237-350) lands the fore clips at x ≈ 265 on the hood, close to the collar. Check it against the moon pool before doing it. - **Hatch on the back:** in TOP it is the most visible addition after the rails: a round hatch with a ring and a 3-spoke wheel at **x ≈ 600-680, ±48 px**, where the sheet has plain shell. Its dark coaming also breaks the SIDE top line (x ≈ 597-682, y 680-712) and shows as a dark bar in REAR (≈ x 1130-1240, y 670-700). - **Change:** make it flush, orange, with no proud ring or wheel, its outline on the sheet's plate seams (a rear plate of the spine) so it reads as one more panel. Or move it under the belly. ### 9. The rear side window is a bus window; the sheet's is a long low glass bay (SIDE) - **Sheet:** a long, low, recessed **glass bay at x ≈ 640-860, y ≈ 768-830**. - Its front end is rounded and sloped, rising from (640,830) to (700,768) like a small second canopy. - The top edge runs under the shell's lower edge; the rear end runs into the stern machinery. - Two thin light frame posts at x ≈ 700 and ≈ 745 rake backwards. - Inside: blue glass panes (≈ x 650-700, y 780-830) and dark equipment. - **Model:** a pill-shaped rounded rectangle **x 668-792, y 769-818** with a heavy frame, three vertical mullions and white lights. - **Change:** the bay as above (see the blue outline in `r1_targets_side.png`). No white lights, thin raked posts. ### 10. The shell's plates are faint (TOP, SIDE) - **Sheet:** the orange shell is clearly built of plates. TOP shows the raised spine strip from the collar narrowing to a point at x ≈ 614, a curved transverse seam band at x ≈ 410-495, and the side plates. SIDE shows a seam behind the collar (x ≈ 345-352) and a curved seam by the dorsal root (x ≈ 455-470). All are bold dark lines with plate-to-plate shading changes. - **Model:** hairlines that vanish in the renders. - **Change:** real grooves about 1.5-2 cm wide, dark, with small chamfers on the plate edges, so they read at the sheet's scale. ### 11. Small details - **Tail fin (SIDE):** the sheet's top is a **flat cut, x 853-870 at y ≈ 657**: a trapezoid with the leading edge from (835,730) and the trailing edge to (893,745). The model's top is rounded. - **Ventral fin (SIDE):** a straight-edged blade, leading edge (840,850)→(873,948), trailing edge nearly vertical from (880,850). The model's has a concave scimitar leading edge. - **Rear body side (SIDE):** the sheet has a light-grey diagonal stripe (panel edge) running from the cheek panel at ≈ (480,830) up and back to ≈ (650,760), and a darker inset below it. The model's lower body is one flat dark slate surface. - **Front belly (SIDE x 300-450, y 850-960):** the sheet has machinery (dark parts, a grey plate at ≈ (340-450, 900-950), a foot at y ≈ 955). The model has a smooth rounded dark bulge. - **FRONT jaw slots:** the sheet shows three vertical slots a side (≈ x 1121-1124, 1143-1150 / 1221-1228, 1247-1250 at y 380-430). SIDE shows two grooves. Keep the two (C5); a short third on the front face is optional. - **Shell orange** is fine (sheet (230,127,39), model (248,154,70) in the studio light). - **Belly box** (SIDE x 480-631, y 868-915) matches. Keep it. --- ## Where the sheet's views contradict each other, and which view should win - **C1. Big fin tip x:** TOP x 711, SIDE x 605. The model's 655-662 is about 50 px off in both views. Neither view is more legible than the other, and this is not why the model fails to look alike: **keep the compromise**, and fix the fins' straightness, section and roots (item 7) instead. - **C2. Orange over the glass's top rear:** SIDE (the wedge at x 200-290) and FRONT (orange y 150-194 above the dome) show it; TOP shows glass there at the centre and orange only at the outer edges. **Two views against one, and the TOP area in question lies under the user's red loop: SIDE and FRONT win.** Build the hood from about x 230 at the centre to the lips at the outer edges. The TOP deviation is hidden under the loop, and it gives the fore clips their footing (item 8). - **C3. Shoulder height:** FRONT puts the bezel's shoulder points at z ≈ 0.73; the SIDE wedge's top runs at z 0.85-1.03. Take the FRONT outline for the bezel's face and the SIDE profile for the wedge's top line. - **C4. "Pods" in FRONT (z 0.08-0.75) vs REAR lobes (z -0.37..0.43):** both are right; they are different parts. FRONT's dark rectangles are the recess openings (SIDE's recess is z 0.21-0.89); REAR's lobes are the ends of the grey cheek bodies (SIDE's cheek panel is z ≈ -0.3..0.3). The model merged both into one black box at the recess height. That is the error in item 4. - **C5. Jaw slots:** FRONT has three a side, SIDE two grooves. SIDE wins (larger and clearer). - **C6. Body bottom:** REAR's bottom is z ≈ -0.69, SIDE's keel under the cockpit z -1.04. SIDE wins; REAR only shows the rear hull. - **C7. Dorsal tip height:** FRONT z ≈ 1.84, SIDE z 2.04. SIDE wins (as built). --- ## The 5 changes that would do most for the resemblance 1. **The canopy as a round dome** (elliptical sections, about 1.47 x 1.16 m at the collar, top at z ≈ 0.82), with a rounded bullet nose instead of a needle (item 1). 2. **The collar as a thick orange bezel with a hood and shoulders**: FRONT's peaked top, shoulder points at (1050,207)/(1321,207), sides ending at the widest line; SIDE's band x ≈ 290-338 ending at y 815 and its forward wedge; TOP's edge lips. It also gives REAR its cape and the fore clips their footing (items 2, 6, 8). 3. **The glass bright, clear cyan**, with the black frame bars and the orange rails removed (item 3). 4. **The black slab pods replaced** by the dark recess under the shell's curl (with its slot and port) and the light-grey cheek bodies lower down, closed with rounded lobes in REAR, no fans (item 4). 5. **The jaw corrected**: deep red-orange, the rear "C" with its dark opening, broad flat prongs, a wide keel tooth, no white lamps. Then **the stern machine**, the centrepiece of REAR and the end of SIDE (items 5, 6). --- ## For later rounds (how this was measured) All helpers are in `critique/` and run from the model folder with `E:\Tools\Programs\Python\python.exe`: - `mkcmp.py`: rebuilds `stack_*`, `blend_*` and `edge_*` from `previews/compare/lk_*.png` (sheet crop over model, 2x). - `runs.py VIEW col|row N ...`: HSV colour-class runs (O orange, J jaw red-orange, G glass, g grey, D dark slate, K black, R red mark) down columns or along rows, for the sheet and the model in sheet pixels. - `pair.py VIEW x0 y0 x1 y1 scale out.png`: the same sheet region from the sheet and the model side by side, with a ruler. - `r1_targets.py`: draws this round's target shapes over the sheet and the model (`r1_targets_front/side.png`). Re-run it on new renders to check items 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 9 at a glance.
